Celebration has taken an entirely different meaning this time at Himalaya International School when its students are showered with arrays of many fun-filled activities under the aegis of "Fit India School Week Celebration", which are pumping them up with zeal and enthusiasm.It is literally a treat to the eyes of the viewers watching these youngsters performing all kinds of activities on virtual platforms with unmatched zest. The students along with their teachers, family members and other staff members enjoyed performing these tasks to the brim. These activities turned out to be a boon for the children as they could get some respite from the otherwise monotonous schedule. Voila! What an incredible performance by our Himalayans.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - VIRTUAL ASSEMBLY (DAY-1) :-

DAY 1

CLASS- NUR – II

VIRTUAL ASSEMBLY ON FREE HAND EXERCISES

A virtual assembly was conducted for classes Nursery to II through online session by Himalaya International School wherein the students actively took part in offering their prayers to the God, asking for the prevalence of peace on the troubled Earth due to Covid-19 pandemic.They also performed some free hand exercises in which they enjoyed immensely jumping, hopping, skipping and doing all kinds of rolly-polly. They did some stretching exercises as shown by their teachers on online sessions. These exercises helped in maintaining the agility of their body and pumped them full with energy.

ZIG-ZAG EXERCISES

Games always contribute to enhance our fitness level. And if fun games are incorporated with free hand exercises and other activities, then it gives immense joy to the performers, particularly,  children derive great satisfaction in doing these fun -filled activities. Such one activity is ZigZag which not only helps in  increasing their stamina but also improves their balancing power. So, the students of class 3rd of Himalaya International School did ZigZag activity to their hearts' content. They used varied types of things such as bricks, bottles, small chairs, birthday caps, paper bowls, paper plates, steel glasses, etc. as markers. The students went zig-zagging their ways through these markers. Some of them used these markers as hurdles and jumped across them. Some of them jumped and hopped in between these markers. All students enjoyed doing this fun-filled activity to the brim.

ROPE SKIPPING

Fun games are the activities in which children indulge happily at their own will and they learn many things while playing these games. One such fun-filled activity is Rope Skipping. Rope Skipping helps in increasing the height of the performer to a great extent and it also contributes in proper blood circulation in the whole body. It increases the stamina of the performer as well. keeping this in mind, the students of class IV used ropes for skipping.Some of the students did rope skipping inside their houses and some loved doing it basking in the sun on their terraces or in the nearby parks.

AEROBICS

Exercises, in any form, help us to remain fit and healthy. Aerobics, being one such form, involves some rhythmic exercises which not only helps in stretching our body parts but also build our muscles, making them flexible and strong. Aerobics helps in strength training as well. Considering these facts, the students of class V of Himalaya International School took up aerobics in their fun and fitness sessions. They did many rhythmic exercises tuning up with some feet-tapping music. They enjoyed doing these aerobics along with their family members. They agreed that these aerobics helped them tone up their body. They promised to continue their exercises on daily basis.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - HOPSCOTCH :-

HOPSCOTCH

When we talk of fun from a child's perspective, fun games come vividly to our mind as they give immense pleasure to the children. And one such game is Hopscotch in which children make a grid consisting of squares numbered from 1 to 10. They toss a pebble inside the square 1 and hop across it to square 2. This way, they continue hopping till square 10 and then they take a U turn and continue to toss the pebble, starting back counting from 10 to 1. This game helps greatly to learn counting for junior kids. Since the children hop on one feet, it helps a lot in balance training. It enhances the stamina of the performers as well. The students of Class VI of Himalaya International School took up Hopscotch as their fun game activity under Fit India School Week Celebration and enjoyed playing it with their siblings and friends. They made grids with chalk and colours for this purpose.

SHUTTLE RUNNING

Shuttle Running, being a fun and simple activity, children of class VII enjoyed doing this activity as it helped develop their acceleration, speed and anaerobic fitness. Children of Himalaya International School enthusiastically participated in this activity. They placed markers at both ends of an imagery pitch having starting point and ending point.. They used their colourful pens, pebbles, ruler, water bottles, balls, etc. as markers. They started running from the starting point and touched the ending point and ran back again to the starting point. It was quite an enjoyable activity for them.

DANCE FORMS

Dance in its varied forms, is also considered an essential part of our fitness regime. Dance not only adds grace to our personality but also enhances our fitness level. Dance helps in maintaining the flexibility of our body. It keeps our body in a toned up shape. So, the students of class VIII of Himalaya International School took up some interesting dance forms such as Zumba, Aerobics, Bhangra, etc. for the Fit India School Week Celebration and gave some enchanting virtual performances. They shook their legs in tune with the music and enjoyed themselves fully.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - YOGA (DAY-2) :-

VIRTUAL ASSEMBLY- COMMON YOGA PROTOCOLS

Yoga is the essence of a healthy life, beaming with boundless energy and fiddle-like fitness. It helps not only in calming the mind but also energise every cell of the body. Considering this fact, Himalaya International School conducted a virtual assembly for classes 3rd to 8th on common yoga protocols. The students of each and every class performed some basic yogas at their home under the guidance of their teachers, provided through online session. Students did Tadasana, Dhanurasana, Pawanmuktasana, Naukasana, Parvatasana, etc. to enhance their physical fitness. The children also talked about the benefits of these asanas in their lives. They also had discussion with their teachers about Dos and Don'ts of practices of yoga in our daily life.They also vowed to inculcate the habit of doing yoga for half an hour everyday, "Yoga apnaayo, rogbhagaayo" being the motto.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - LETTER THE NATION :-

OPEN LETTER TO YOUTH OF THE NATION”POWER OF FITNESS”

Everyone of us needs someone to express our views to. We express our views through  spoken form, bodily gestures or through written form. When we talk of written form, letter writing comes to our mind. And when we want to express our feelings about something to a large group of people, then one of the relevant means is Open Letter. Through open letter, we can communicate to the masses and it can have a great impact on a large mass of people in one go. The students of classes VI to VIII of Himalaya International School wrote Open letters to the Youth of the Nation under the Fit India School Week Celebration. They wrote their letter on the topic "Power of Fitness". In their letter, they stressed upon the importance of following an exercise regime daily, having good and nutritious diet and maintaining proper health hygiene. They also suggested many useful ways of imbibing good healthy habits in our day to day lives.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - OPEN MIC ON EXERCISE :-

OPEN MIC ON EXERCISE IS A CELEBRATION OF WHAT YOUR BODY CAN DO, NOT A PUNISHMENT FOR WHAT YOU ATE.

Children were given the topic " Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, not a punishment for what you eat" to render speech on, under the "Fit India School Week Celebration". So, the students of class VIII of Himalaya International School rendered some very thought provoking speech on this topic. Their oratory skills took wings while speaking on this topic. Some of them very aptly said that we should not go on dieting, lessening our food intake but should stick to some wonderful exercise regime so that we don't feel guilty even after gorging on food which are rich in calories because exercise helps us, to a great extent, to burn calories and keep our body in good shape. After hearing them, one could tell that the students were very serious about what they spoke about.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - BRAIN GAMES (DAY-3) :-

BRAIN GAMES

As it is very true to say "A Healthy Mind resides on a Healthy Body", similarly, we cannot refute the fact that it is the brain only that helps our body to function properly. It is the CPU of our body so it is very essential for us to provide it with the enrichment that it needs to function properly. Now, the question arises 'how', particularly, in the case of small children. The simplest solution to this question is to involve the kids in brain games which come in varied forms such as Ludo, Carrom, Chess, Rubi cubes, Snake Ladder, etc. So, under the Fit India School Week Celebration, the students of HImalaya International School engaged themselves in all these afore-mentioned games and enjoyed to the brim along with their siblings and other family members.

POSTER MAKING COMPETITION ON “HUM FIT TOH INDIA FIT”

The students of Himalaya International School explored their creative skills when they took up their colour palettes and brushes to fan their imagination for making posters on the topic "Hum Fit Toh India Fit" under the banner of Fit India School Week Celebration". They made some eye-catching posters depicting the theme aptly. Through their sketches, they drew our attention to the fact that a positive attitude towards life incorporated with a proper exercise regime and healthy diet could make a lot of difference towards the goal of discovering a new normal healthy India.

ADVERTISEMENT ON “EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING ARE INTERCONNECTED”

For ages, advertisement has been an indispensable tool for endorsing a product or a campaign. Its effect on the masses has been manifold. Keeping this in view, the students of class VII at Himalaya International School, prepared their own Ads on the topic "Emotional and Physical Well being are Interconnected", assigned to them under "Fit India Week Celebration". They made effective videos depicting the importance of wearing masks and using hand sanitizers, expressing their views on the significance of these products in our lives nowadays to fight against Covid-19.

FIT INDIA- DEBATE ON DIET & NUTRITION (DAY-4) :-

DEBATE ON DIET AND NUTRITION DURING PANDEMIC

A conversation takes an interesting turn when a debate erupts out of it. And children find it very interesting debating with their counterparts, contradicting each other. The students of class VII availed this opportunity of debating with their peer group on the topic "Diet and Nutrition" under the banner of Fit India School Week Celebration. The group in favour of the motion talked about the importance of having lots of fibrous and nutritious food to combat the pandemic and to refrain from junk food. The group speaking against the motion talked in negation. To cut the story short, the debate was quite appealing to the online viewers.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - ESSAY WRITING :-

ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION ON FITNESS BEATS PANDEMIC

Children love to jot down their feelings in words of the daily happenings. Some of them even maintain a diary in which they capture all their emotions and feelings of day to day life. This time, being threatened by the deadly pandemic ushered in by Covid-19, which was completely a queer experience for these young kids, the students of classes V to VIII of Himalaya International School poured out their heart in the essays that they wrote for Fit India School Week Celebration. They wrote the essays on the topic "Fitness beats Pandemic" in which they showed their grit and confidence in combating this deadly disease with their fiddle-like fitness and healthy habits.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - POEM WRITING :-

POEM WRITING COMPETITION ON FITNESS BEATS PANDEMIC

Creativity of children knows no bound. They love to explore different horizons to expand their creative skills. So, in this regard, the students of classes VII and VIII of Himalaya International School took up their pens and exasperated with the menace of the deadly Covid-19, penned their furious feelings against it by writing poems, thereby nailing down the pandemic. Their topic was "Fitness beats Pandemic" which was assigned to them under the Fit India Week Celebration in which they very beautifully in poetic verses, put emphasis on the importance of good health and the ways to maintain it. They put stress on developing the practice of using hand sanitizers, gloves and face masks.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - ONLINE QUIZ ON FITNESS (DAY-5) :-

ONLINE QUIZ ON FITNESS

A perfect health denotes overall fitness of body as well as mind which includes physical, emotional, intellectual and mental health. At Himalaya International school, we always come up with new ideas not only to enhance the physical agility and to empower the mind but also increase the intellectual endurance.So, an online quiz was held for students of classes I to VIII through Google Meet classrooms in which students were asked many interesting questions regarding fitness. Since students are daily updated about fitness and health by their respective class teachers and they are made to exercise regularly through online session to keep themselves in proper shape , they fared very well in the quiz as most of the answers were known to them which showed that our students are quite aware about their well being and the surroundings. They know how to protect themselves from deadly diseases by having proper diet, maintaining good healthy habits and keeping themselves updated with the latest information on health and fitness.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - VIRTUAL CHALLENGES :-

VIRTUAL CHALLENGES

When it comes to accepting challenges, be it real life situations or physical fitness, the Himalayans at Himalaya International School always turn up to give their best. So, this time too, with the virtual challenges thrown to them in form of Squats, Ball dribbling, Rope skipping, Spot jogging and Step up challenge, all the students and teachers of the school accepted the challenges and sportingly did these activities. With their hands-in-glove, the students and the teachers enjoyed performing these activities in their spare time. These activities added zest to their otherwise boring monotonous schedules.

1. FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - FAMILY FITNESS (DAY-6) :-

FAMILY FITNESS

A lot is being talked about these days regarding health and fitness but the true essence of good health lies in the healthy tradition that is followed in our respective homes. When we talk of health, family as a whole comes to our mind. It's from the members of the family only, particularly, the parents from whom the children imbibe some good healthy habits. Family plays a vital role in inculcating good habits among children by adhering to proper exercise regime. And the students of Himalaya International School are way ahead in this respect as the students as well as their family members take keen interest in maintaining proper health. The students made eye-catching videos of themselves doing free hand exercises and yoga along with their parents, grandparents and siblings, which are being shared by us on the portal.

FIT INDIA WEEK (DECEMBER 2020) :-


A Five days ‘Fitness week’ was celebrated in Himalaya International School for students and staff. As now day’s children and adult everybody remain stick with gadgets and spoiling their health due to lack of physical activity. To make everyone aware about physical and mental fitness, it was organized. The motto of organizing it was also to attract everyone towards various activities of fitness which were conducted throughout the week.

DAY 1: YOGIC EXERCISES
Under the campaign ‘Yoga for all’ yoga was performed by the students of classes VI to VIII.Students were told students how to breathe properly and hold breathe, exhale and inhale. They were also told how yoga keeps them fit not only physically but also mentally.

DAY 2: BALANCEDEVELOPMENT EXERCISE
Developing good balance helps to improve your overall health and fitness levels. On Day 2, Balance development exercise was conducted to prevent ankle re-injury and reduce the risk of ligament problems. 

DAY 3: RUNNING ON THE SPOTS
In the series of ‘Fit India Movement’ running on the spots was held. In which students learnt many exercise and got the information about the importance of running in place elevates heart rate, improves blood sugar levels, and burns calories and fat, all of which help with weight loss.

DAY 4: STAIRS UP AND DOWN
On the fourth day of Fitness Week Celebration, Students performed Stairs up and down exercises and students were informed that Stairs climbing exercise increase the strength of the leg, thigh and hip muscles while also toning the abdominal muscles.

DAY5: PUSH-UPS
On day 5, Students performed Push-ups to strengthen the lower back and core by engaging (pulling in) the abdominal muscles.

FIT INDIA WEEK (NOVEMBER 2020) :-

Himalaya International School, F-Block, Sector-9, Rohini observed the Fitness week in the third week of November, 2020 to support the nation-wide “Fit India Movement” aimed to encourage people to inculcate physical activities and sports in their everyday lives and daily routine.

Various activities were conducted within the school premises during this week which included aerobics, yoga, exercises for upper body and lower body strength.

The events saw wide participation by students along staff members of the school.
